The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a disappointing 54-80-129. The TSX Venture Exchange fell two points to 799 while polished diamond prices were flat. Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC), just $10.46 two weeks ago, continued its recovery today, gaining 32 cents to $12.63 on 698,000 shares. The company's Ekati plant is back in operation following a three-month break to repair damages caused by a fire in June.
Peter Dasler's Canalaska Uranium Inc. (CVV) tumbled 27.5 cents to 48.5 cents on 2.19 million shares today on news from its Athabasca diamond project in northwest Saskatchewan. Now, Mr. Dasler, Canalaska's president and chief executive officer, says another five holes failed to hit kimberlite. Worse, the remaining four tests have been deferred until winter because of high water levels.
