The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a solid 64-51-142. The TSX Venture Exchange gained two points to 679 while polished diamond prices edged lower. Frank Smeenk's Debut Diamonds Inc. (DDI) closed unchanged at 2.5 cents on 802,000 shares. Debut has an intriguing diamond prospect near the Victor mine in Northern Ontario; larger samples are needed to prove or kill the play, but Debut has no cash.

James Bruchs's Tsodilo Resources Ltd. (TSD: $0.65) is still planning a bulk sampling program at its BK-16 project in Botswana. It will drill 17 large diameter holes in a 3,460-metre program slated to start in the third quarter. First, Tsodilo will have to refurbish its processing plant and set up the final diamond recovery circuit, work that should start shortly. As well, Mr. Bruchs, chairman and chief executive officer, says the cost of the large diameter holes is significant, so to prevent any nasty surprises he plans to drill smaller core holes at each site. That work, which will take about two months, should also start soon.
