Patrick Moore, a co-founder of Greenpeace, says the modern environmental movement has it all wrong. Humans are not solely responsible for climate change, fish farms cause little harm and nuclear power is good. Mr. Moore, who left Greenpeace in 1986 after political activists overpowered scientific reason, says that the organization is "fundamentally incorrect on position after position."

Mr. Moore made the statements at a well-attended Fraser Institute luncheon in downtown Vancouver on Friday. Speaking to a crowd that included civic and federal politicians, he explained that he has devoted himself to finding sensible solutions to environmental problems. He sees this as more productive that the confrontational style the environmental movement uses.

More dams, more logging

Electricity is one of the issues on which the environmental movement causes more problems than it solves, he says. His top priority for power generation is to see more hydro electric dams. They emit nothing into the atmosphere, they consume no fossil fuels and they are a cheap way to generate massive amounts of electricity. The environmental movement opposes dams because of the damage they cause to ecosystems when a valley is flooded to create a reservoir for the dam.

Sellout.

Looks like anyone can be bought. Wow. That is such a one-sided speech/article its pathetic. Of course he was speaking to the Fraser Inst. Let the rape and pillage of our planet continue...hard to list here how many issues this article and Moore neglected to address regarding every single topic listed.

I am happy to see some reality and common sense coming to humans in terms of the climate file. The US could be up front and lead by using more and more North American (Mexico, US and Canada) energy. What needs to be done is to legislate the use of natural gas and propane. We have so much of it here in North America to easily be independent of foreign oil and gas within a decade by the implementation of such legislation. Also, the same is true for uranium for nuclear power. North America could use uranium and natural gas as a bridge to cleaner fuels for the decades to come. This could also save billions/year in US financial aid to governments around the globe to secure access to energy.

Yep, natural gas is the only reasonable solution for the next decade or two. In order to have a solution beyond that, we need lots of research now, not feverish dreams about solar and wind power, which are an environmental blight if I ever saw one.

A fool and his money are lucky to get together in the first place. If Patrick can fleece a few dollars out these guys by telling them exactly what they want I say all the power to him. If he didn't take them, they would probably be out buying magic beans, so what's the harm?

Posted by Mark at 2011-02-22 17:05

Mmmmmmm... Magic beans.

About time someone stood up to the bleeding heart environmentalist tree hugging bastards.

This man has applied a good portion of common sense to environmentalism, rather than blind faith in some unscientific emotional hearsay about the way things really work.

The old axiom "all things in moderation" applies here more than ever. Obviously, we need energy to fuel our society, for everything from transporting and preparing food to manufacturing the goods we all use. It makes sense to try to migrate from a non-renewable source to a renewable one, granted, but as someone pointed out earlier, you can't expect it to happen overnight.

You can bet the Greenpeace a**holes drive to their rallies in their cars, heat their houses with oil or natural gas, cook their food with electricity, and buy their polar fleece jackets from Wal-Mart same as the rest of us.

Any technological advantage we can gain by energy research, genetic modification, fish farming or whatever, will be direly needed if we expect to be able to support our exploding population on this fixed-size planet over the coming generations.

Get over this insane, unsupported, blind faith environmentalism and apply technology and common sense to sustaining our planet.

SATAN ALWAYS GETS THE GREATEST PLEASURE BY SEDUCING THOSE CLOSEST TO THE LORD. THE ONE WHO TURNED PATRICK MOORE WILL DO WELL IN HIS REGARD.

Hallalua brother metalguru and welcome to the battle. As you know scientists will stoop to any level to support thier global warming arguments including the use of facts and data. Currently they are surging ahead in the propaganda war and our side needs to redouble our efforts if we are to close the propaganda gap. Obviously this battle does not come cheap and so I ask that you and fellow supporters please be as generous as you can and send as much as you can to any organization or individual fighting this glorious war. Thank you brother in advance for your generosity.

Magic beans are in the mail... I hope they help.

Like any religion the light of common sense is met by cries of "heresy", "death to the infidel" and the burning crosses and inquisitions are used to root out any who dare argue reality. Time to put "environmentalism" on the rubbish heap of history where it belongs. Great talk Patrick!

Posted by Reality1 at 2011-02-24 12:07

Thank you for those kind words Reality. It is easy in this cynical world to forget the true victims, the long suffering oil companies who've had their record profits threatened by the cost imposed upon them of the crushing burden of financing the propaganda race. It time to relieve the oil companies of the cost of this unfair burden. So again I implore you give as much money to any organization or daresay I the namesake of this article as part of your contribution. Propaganda is everybodies business. If you are not sure who to send it to, send a cheque to the first oil company that comes to mind along with a note saying you just want to help. May the deity of your choice bless you.

Global Warming is Big Business. Look at how many jobs it creates. While there must be a critical eye wide open, many concerns are a myth created by the Big Business of Global Warming.

Thanks for proving my point Patrick! "Religious" ignorance is alive, well and proven.

Posted by Reality1 at 2011-02-24 13:42

Patrick:

I think you meant to say "misuse facts and data", which is what they are really good at. Witness the debacle over the "hockey stick" temperature graph flaunted by some scientists as "the end of the world". It was clearly proven that the unscrupulous (or perhaps just criminally careless) scientist who came up with the curve had cooked his data and interpolated missing data in a clearly wrong manner.

My opinion is that "global warming" is a natural cycle, just a slightly higher output from the sun, or other natural cause. Recent increases in CO2 levels by mans hand pale in comparison to nature's influence, since the earth has clearly survived through times of CO2 levels 10 or 100 times what they are now with minimal ill effects, and this happening well before man developed any technological ability to alter the atmospheric composition.

I was a bit taken back by your suggestion that I should give money to a random oil company - even though as you pointed out they are often victims in this global scam, they make a hell of a lot more money than I ever will and they need to fight their own battles. We should instead focus on changing the political and public attitudes by beating the environmentalists at their own game - ie information campaigns one for one to their "disinformation", to debunk them with elegant logic and hard, indisputable facts instead of opinionated information twisted to their own ends.

Mr Moore, What comment do you have on this? 1. At Wal-Mart, Americans spend $36,000,000 every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3.. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private employer, and most can't speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.

8. During this same period, 31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers ; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago.

11. This year, 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur At a Wal-Mart store. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.

13. The value of product for Wal-Mart passing through the port of San Diego each year is a larger sum than 93% of ALL countries Gross National Product (GNP) .....and that is only ONE port ...one way – that’s how Wal-Mart gets it's stuff.

14. Of the 1.6 million employees, only 1.2% make a living above the poverty level.

15. Wal-Mart's head office is located and centralized in Bentonville. Due to this fact, there are more millionaires per square mile there than any place on Earth.

16. The official U.S. Government position is that Wal-Mart's prices are no lower than anyone else's when compared to a typical families weekly purchases. That's the view of the statisticians at the Bureau Of Labor Statistics (BLS) responsible for calculating the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

17. 92% of everything Wal-Mart sells, comes from China. Another 4% comes from Chinese owned companies in the U.S. or in 3rd world Countries.

18. Wal-Mart and MOST large companies, take out life insurance on it's employees, without their knowing. If an employee dies, ALL the insurance moneys go to the companies. I.e. An employee making $18,000 per year, dies, and the company might make as much as $1 million. Most often these moneys, coming from what is commonly referred to as "Dead Peasant Life Insurance Policies", is paid out to executives as bonuses. (A common practice, unknown by the average consumer).

19. Wal-Mart now averages a "profit" (not sales) of $36 billion per year.

20. Let Wal-Mart bail out Wall Street. If not, consider shopping someplace else.

If we closed all the Wal-mart stores would China go bankrupt?
