WestJet starts service between Quebec City, Montreal

2017-06-15 06:54 ET - News Release

Mr. Charles Duncan reports

WESTJET LAUNCHES FIRST INTRA-QUEBEC FLIGHT

Today, WestJet Airlines Ltd. launched its new route between Quebec City and Montreal, the airline's first non-stop flight within the province of Quebec. WestJet will operate four flights daily connecting the two cities.

"WestJet's introduction of our first-ever point-to-point service within Quebec brings lower fares and an elevated inflight experience to la belle province and is the next step in our mandate to become a truly national carrier," said Charles Duncan, president, WestJet Encore. "The communities of Montreal and Quebec City will enjoy having a choice of air carriers on this popular route, as WestJet provides another convenient option for residents who travel within the province for business and leisure. As always, we are committed to making air travel in Canada better."

"By adding more service from Quebec City, WestJet shows its commitment toward the passengers of the greater Quebec City area," said Gaetan Gagne, president and chief executive officer of Aeroport de Quebec Inc. "WestJet's increased presence in the Quebec-Montreal corridor will give more access to more destinations through its network and that of its airline partners. More competition in the market has a direct impact on the price of airfare, for the benefit of the travellers in our community."

"This new flight between Montreal-Trudeau and Quebec City is another proof of WestJet's commitment to enriching our airline network," said Philippe Rainville, president and chief executive officer of Aeroports de Montreal.

The new route is the second of three the airline announced earlier this year -- bringing more choice, competition and lower fares to the Quebec market. The routes are part of a significant investment in Quebec's travel and tourism market, with increased service and new routes to and from Montreal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport as well as Quebec City's Jean Lesage International Airport. On March 15, WestJet launched twice-daily service between Montreal and Halifax. And, on Oct. 15, WestJet will begin twice-daily service between Montreal and Boston. Over all, the airline is adding 105 more flights per week in the province, a capacity increase of 74 per cent.

The Quebec City/Montreal route is operated by WestJet's regional airline, WestJet Encore, on its fleet of Canadian-made Bombardier Q400s. WestJet is proud to support this iconic Canadian company based in Montreal and flies the fourth largest fleet of Q400s in the world. By mid-2018, the regional airline will have a total of 45 aircraft.
