The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday edition that in his long career, Seymour Schulich has never owned 100 million shares of any company. The Post's Barry Critchley, writing in Off the Record, says that given the 90-million-share interest he has built up in Pengrowth Energy -- a filing was made Tuesday for another five-million-share purchase -- and given that he is in his 77th year, it would seem the conditions for hitting such a milestone have probably never been better. Mr. Schulich, who owns 16.7 per cent of Pengrowth, was not saying anything about his plans on Tuesday. Mr. Critchley muses that there is one advantage of owning 100 million shares: the mathematics on a mark-to-market basis is easy. Mr. Schulich, who prefers to own a large position in his investments, became a 10-per-cent shareholder in mid-March when he bought 26 million shares. Since then, he has made two purchases each of five million shares. Pengrowth closed Tuesday at $2.08, up six cents on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
