Globe columnist pitches Carlin explorer Gold Standard

2016-03-01 08:45 ET - In the News

The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that the list of shareholders at Gold Standard Ventures ($1.25) includes billionaire gold bug Albert Friedberg. In a Globe special, Fabrice Taylor writes that investors who think gold looks interesting in a world of negative interest rates might want to look at buying the stock. Gold Standard owns the second-largest land position on the Carlin Trend, which has produced tens of billions of dollars worth of gold since it was discovered. They call the Carlin "elephant country." The Carlin is located in Nevada, probably the friendliest gold-producing jurisdiction in the world. Mr. Friedberg owns about 15 per cent of Gold Standard. Mr. Friedberg believes gold is in a long bullish uptrend and he has something of a Midas touch when it comes to gold equities, having scored big on such names as Seabridge Gold, which rose quickly from start-up to a market value of $1-billion in about a decade. Recent results showed strong grades that hint at an economic and highly profitable deposit. Australia's OceanaGold owns 20 per cent of the company, while Goldcorp owns 10 per cent. Both bought in at $1 a share. Mr. Taylor also owns shares, but did not say what price he paid for them.
