The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday edition that Echelon Wealth analyst Russell Stanley says Village Farms International's ($6.10) experience as one of North America's largest greenhouse growers of premium quality tomatoes will service it well as it transitions into pot production. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that though its shares have jumped significantly since the June 6 announcement of a definitive agreement to form a joint venture with Emerald Health Therapeutics ($5) for large-scale, high-quality, low-cost cannabis production, Mr. Stanley feels the company's stock still has room to run, beginning coverage with a "speculative buy" rating. Currently the only analyst covering the stock, Mr. Stanley set a price target of $8.75 for Village Farms shares. Mr. Stanley says in a note: "While the cannabis JV has garnered most of the attention of late, we cannot lose site of the fact that VFF is one of the largest vertically integrated greenhouse growers of produce, particularly tomatoes, in North America. ... While the cannabis JV should dominate in terms of EBITDA contribution, the company has consistently indicated that it remains committed to its existing produce business."
