Berkwood results show most of graphite is large flake

2018-03-08 08:01 ET - News Release

Mr. Thomas Yingling reports

BERKWOOD ANNOUNCES LARGE GRAPHITE FLAKE CHARACTIZATION RESULTS AT LAC GUERET PROJECT, QUEBEC

Berkwood Resources Ltd. has provided positive preliminary characterization results of graphite composite samples from its wholly owned Lac Gueret South property in northeastern Quebec.

Results show that a large portion of the graphite flakes are coarse large flake (20 mesh to 100 mesh) and easily concentrated by simple inverse gravity process (the light portion being the valuable product), with only a small percentage of the graphite being finer than 100 mesh (100 mesh); the latter might prove to be recoverable as a lower value product once more detailed studies are completed.

Met-Solve Laboratories Inc. of Langley, B.C., was retained to carry out basic characterization tests on six composites derived from selected phase 1 drill program core samples bearing graphite recovered from zone 1 at the Lac Gueret South property. This characterization work will be used to inform the further design of a proposed metallurgical program: This larger program will include sampled from all of the drilling undertaken through to the completion of the phase 3 program presently in progress (refer to news release of March 5, 2018).

The six composites prepared from the drill hole cores, representative of the geology outlined through the completion of the earlier drill programs, featured graphite contents from a low of 10.4 per cent graphitic carbon to a high of 36.6 per cent Cgr.

It is worth noting that the high-grade material of composite E with 36.6 per cent Cgr yielded a coarse large flake concentrate (20 mesh by 50 mesh) grading 93.5 per cent C graphite.

Tom Yingling, president and chief executive officer, states: "These positive results from initial characterization work show a large portion of coarse large flake within the sampled intervals of zone 1 graphite intercepts. This demonstrates that the deposit has a significant component of coarse large flake graphite, a higher value product. Further metallurgical testing will be needed to design an efficient graphite concentration process which will be critical to the project economics as we continue to develop this exciting opportunity. Further metallurgical studies will build on these initial results. Samples from phase 2 and 3 drilling will be used."

The characterization program was supervised for the company by Michel Robert, PEng, a metallurgist with extensive experience.

Edward Lyons, PGeo (British Columbia, Quebec, Newfoundland), is a qualified person under the definition of Canadian National Instrument 43-101, and has approved the technical information in this news release. Mr. Lyons has worked extensively on the Lac Gueret property, now owned by Mason, and neighbouring graphite properties since 2000.

The company also announces that it has cancelled its private placement announced Jan. 23, 2018, with intentions to raise up to $1.5-million.

About the company

Berkwood is engaged in exploration for the commodities that enable the modern revolution in essential technologies. These technologies are dependent upon the ethical mining and supply of naturally occurring elements and minerals that enhance the performance of energy storage systems and permit the development and miniaturization of new electronics and structural components for the new suite of innovative tools. The company is led by a team with collectively over 100 years of experience and the members of which have been involved with the discovery of several producing mines.
