The Financial Post reports in its Friday edition Samsung unveiled two big-screen smart phones Thursday in New York that will be available in Canada on Aug. 21. The Post's Christina Pellegrini writes so far, BCE, Rogers, Telus, Quebecor and Wind Mobile Corp. have all confirmed that both Samsung devices will be available at their store Friday, Aug. 21. The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, with a curved screen, is made for multimedia, whereas the Galaxy Note 5, with a pen for writing, is made for multitasking. Both models have 5.7-inch screens, support wireless charging and contain four gigabytes of random-access memory. The South Korean giant needs to reverse a sales rut in its mobile unit, as a growing crop of low-cost Chinese manufacturers has crowded the entry-level market, and Apple's larger-screened iPhones have taken a bite out of the category Samsung pioneered. In Canada, Apple is still the top dog. According to data compiled by Strategy Analytics, Samsung trailed Apple in first-quarter smart phone shipments by 15 percentage points. Rogers Communications said it recorded a 24-per-cent increase in the number of higher-value iPhone activations in its second quarter compared with the same period in 2014.
