West Texas Intermediate crude for June delivery gained 26 cents to $70.96 on the New York Merc, while Brent for July gained $1.11 to $78.23 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $15.45 to WTI ($55.51), narrowing from a discount of $16.05. Natural gas for June gained four cents to $2.84. The TSX energy index gained 4.07 points to 205.78.
Many oil and gas producers had a decent day. Peyto Exploration & Development Corp. (PEY) gained 26 cents to $10.89, NuVista Energy Ltd. (NVA) gained 11 cents to $9.21, Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (AAV) gained 20 cents to $3.81 and BlackPearl Resources Inc. (PXX) gained three cents to $1.49.
Trinidadian oil producer Touchstone Exploration Inc. (TXP) gained one cent to 26.5 cents on 245,700 shares after releasing its first quarter results and an update on drilling. It produced 1,543 barrels of oil a day in the first quarter. It proudly proclaimed its progress since then, producing 1,669 barrels a day in April and 1,772 barrels a day last week, but shareholders may recall that the company was already producing 1,705 barrels a day in mid-March.
