West Texas Intermediate crude for April delivery gained $1.32 to $62.57 on the New York Merc, while Brent for May gained $1.17 to $65.54 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $24.30 to WTI ($38.27), narrowing from a discount of $28. Natural gas for April gained a fraction of a cent to $2.70. The TSX energy index gained 3.91 points to 173.04.
Today was a good day for many oil and gas producers. Alberta producer Cenovus Energy Inc. (CVE) gained 52 cents to $10.26 on 8.72 million shares. Saskatchewan- and Utah-focused Crescent Point Energy Corp. (CPG) gained 51 cents to $9.04 on 5.43 million shares, recovering a portion of the 77 cents that it lost after releasing its financials late last week. Meanwhile, Texas- and Alberta-focused Baytex Energy Corp. (BTE) gained 33 cents to $3.56 on 6.49 million shares, likely in anticipation of the company's release of its financials tomorrow.
