West Texas Intermediate crude for July delivery added $1.29 to $61.43 on the New York Merc, while Brent for July added 82 cents to $65.70 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $7.65 to WTI ($53.78), down from a discount of $7.50. Natural gas for July added 4.5 cents to $2.89. The TSX energy index added 2.69 points to close at 217.56.

Enerplus Corp. (ERF) added 79 cents to $11.88 on 2.55 million shares, after raising its 2015 budget and production guidance to reflect eight extra well completions at its North Dakota oil assets. These contribute one-quarter of production but are getting two-thirds of the budget. The extra completions will cost $60-million in total, and management has previously said each well in this area typically produces about 1,000 barrels a day in its first month. As a result, the budget has gone up to $540-million from $480-million, and the production target has gone up to a range of 97,000 to 103,000 barrels a day from a range of 93,000 to 100,000 barrels a day.
