New York spot gold rose $4.20 to $1,314.00 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 2.94 points to 611.94 while the TSX Gold Index added 2.53 points to 192.46. Most Canadian gold miners moved little on a slow Friday, although Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) was active as usual, gaining 34 cents to $18.07 on 11.78 million shares. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) added 25 cents to $14.49 on 353,000 shares. The company will have its 2018 results ready in two weeks. Endeavour Mining Corp. (EDV) went the other way, dropping 11 cents to $21.57 on 524,000 shares.
John LeBoutillier and Benoit Desormeaux's Semafo Inc. (SMF), up 15 cents to $2.98 on 6.45 million shares, expects to produce between 390,000 and 430,000 ounces of gold this year at its Boungou and Mana mines in Burkina Faso, with roughly 230,000 ounces expected to come from Boungou and 180,000 from Mana. Last year, Semafo produced just under 245,000 ounces, most of them coming from Mana, as Boungou was just ramping up to commercial production.
