New York spot gold lost $5.90 to $1,241.00 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 3.73 points to 725.54 while the TSX Gold Index dipped 1.76 points to 188.92. Most Canadian gold miners moved little today although a few traded actively. Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) added one cent to $1.42 on 2.52 million shares and Kinross Gold Corp. (K) lost seven cents to $4.94 on 3.25 million shares.

Robert Dodds and Quentin Yarie's Red Pine Exploration Inc. (RPX), unchanged at 5.5 cents on 7,000 shares, has received assays of up to 5.4 grams of gold per tonne over 2.2 metres from a new zone at its Wawa gold project near -- logically -- Wawa in Northern Ontario. The new assays are from 22 holes drilled in its latest program, which began last fall and continued into this year. The new zone, Minto Lower, is parallel to the Minto Mine South zone and the company believes it has a strike length of at least 1,500 metres based on drilling and surface mapping. Another new zone, identified in the footwall of the Surluga deposit, produced 2.54 grams of gold over 5.4 metres.
