New York spot gold jumped $13.70 to $1,352.80 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 1.57 points to 777.71 while the TSX Gold Index rose 4.03 points to 188.56. Canadian gold miners were strong today. Fred Stanford's Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) led the way, gaining $2.29 to $13.69 on 2.19 million shares. Today's move, following news that the company's union woes are over, added to last Friday's $3.91 gain on 2.94 million shares.

Jonathan Awde's Gold Standard Ventures Corp. (GSV), up three cents to $2.13 on 344,000 shares, has received assays of up to 1.18 grams of gold per tonne over 126.5 metres from infill drilling at Dark Star, on its Railroad-Pinion project in Nevada. The assays, from 25 holes in the northern portion of the Dark Star oxide deposit, produced another eight hits that that exceeded 60 metres. Most of those intervals averaged less than one gram of gold per tonne, although a 77.7-metre zone averaged 1.57 grams per tonne and an 80.8-metre span averaged 1.56 grams per tonne. Furthermore, there were higher-grade intervals within the broader zones, including a 9.1-metre subinterval that assayed 4.74 grams per tonne.
