New York spot gold rose $15.10 to $1,293.40 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 6.99 points to 799.35 while the TSX Gold Index added 2.24 points to 195.91. Premier Gold Mines Ltd. (PG) led Canadian gold miners higher today, adding 20 cents to $3.71 on 1.08 million shares. Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI) also did well, gaining 26 cents to $8.15 on 2.87 million shares.
Bill Fisher and Julio Espaillat's Goldquest Mining Corp. (GQC), up 3.5 cents to 30.5 cents on 768,000 shares, has received two exploration licences in the Dominican Republic. The licences cover the Tocan de Pino and Hoyo Prieto projects. The new ground is near the company's existing gold projects in the central part of the country, with Tocan de Pino lying just four kilometres east of Cachimbo, Goldquest's most recent discovery. While drilling continues at Cachimbo and assays are still pending from several holes, the company already has noteworthy hits as high as 7.9 grams of gold and 40 grams of silver per tonne, plus 1.81 per cent zinc, across 21 metres.
