New York spot gold gained $3.90 to $1,274.30 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 4.64 points to 789.34 while the TSX Gold Index dropped 0.96 point to 194.27. Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) led Canadian gold miners lower today, dropping 79 cents to $7.97 on 2.03 million shares. The company said it was in the red during its third quarter. Goldcorp Inc. (G) added eight cents to $16.93 on 6.17 million shares.

Duncan Middlemiss's Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO), up 25 cents to $2.04 on 3.02 million shares, has received assays of up to 51.93 uncut grams of gold per tonne across 11.96 metres from underground drilling at the 300E zone at its Eagle River mine near Wawa in Northern Ontario. The assays, from the latest eight holes in the company's continuing drill program, produced several other high-grade hits, including 37.55 grams per tonne across 10.15 metres and 53.06 grams per tonne across 7.7 metres.
