New York spot gold gained $2.20 to $1,283.90 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 0.64 point to 824.92 while the TSX Gold Index added 0.85 point to 217.61. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) led Canadian miners higher today. It added 23 cents to $25.61 on 708,000 shares. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) went the other way, dropping 45 cents to $17.05 on 2.10 million shares.
Chris Stewart's Treasury Metals Inc. (TML), down five cents to 65 cents on 902,000 shares, is offering 12.4 million shares at 65 cents, for a total of $8.06-million. (The underwriters can elect to sell an additional 1.86 million shares, which would bring in another $1.21-million.) Mr. Stewart, president and chief executive officer, says the cash is for continuing work on Treasury's Goliath gold project, just east of Dryden in Northwestern Ontario. The bulk of the cash is presumably for work on a feasibility study that the company expects to complete later this year.
