New York spot gold fell $5.80 to $1,215.40 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 2.33 points to 816.23 while the TSX Gold Index added 3.33 points to 218.02. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) led the way, gaining $1.13 to $18.33 on 3.68 million shares. The stock had been as low as $15.74 on Monday following word of delays at West Detour and promising assays from Lower Detour. The latter news has apparently won out.
Mike Basha's Aurion Resources Ltd. (AU) lost six cents to $1.04 on 1.01 million shares. The stock leapt 51 cents to $1.10 on 2.65 million shares on Wednesday, after it received assays of up to 1,563.5 grams of gold per tonne from grab samples collected at Risti in northern Finland. The company collected 133 samples over an area 1,150 metres long and 700 metres wide, which it has dubbed the Aurora zone. In all, 36 of the samples topped 31 grams of gold per tonne -- handily, apparently, since the average of all 133 tests was a hefty 74.3 grams of gold per tonne. (These are grab samples, remember.)
