New York spot gold fell $3.00 to $1,180.90 on an abbreviated U.S. Thanksgiving Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 2.71 points to 734.58 while the TSX Gold Index rose 1.66 points to 188.55. Canadian gold miners were listless again today, although Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) added 39 cents to $20.04 on 4.25 million shares while Premier Gold Mines Ltd. (PG) fell six cents to $2.21 on 1.46 million shares.
Andrew Dinning's Sarama Resources Ltd. (SWA), up three cents to 17 cents on 104,000 shares, has begun a new round of drilling at the South Hounde gold project in southwestern Burkina Faso. About 4,000 metres of drilling will test the oxide mineralization at Djimbake, a prospect about 3,200 metres along strike from the existing mineral resource. Another 2,200 metres are planned to test for oxide mineralization along structures believed to link the MM-MC and Phantom East-MM prospects. Finally, 1,200 metres of drilling are planned to test for downdip extensions of a high-grade lens at the MM prospect. The drilling is apparently the prelude to the company's $4.7-million exploration budget for 2017 at Hounde.
