New York spot gold gained $3.80 to $1,273.30 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 4.58 points to 715.59 while the TSX Gold Index fell 2.56 points to 231.76. Canadian gold miners traded in narrow ranges today, although Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) lost 34 cents to $6.36 on 15.70 million shares. Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. (KGI) led the gainers, rising three cents to $12.01 on 1.48 million shares.
Gregory Beischer's Millrock Resources Inc. (MRO), unchanged at 37.5 cents on 450,000 shares, has purchased the Willoughby gold project near Stewart in northwestern British Columbia from a Yukon-based prospector for $40,000 in cash and 300,000 shares. (Additional payments are required, depending on Millrock's exploration success.) The 995-hectare property is just west of the Red Mountain project that Robert McLeod's IDM Mining Ltd. (IDM: $0.205) is working. Red Mountain hosts 1.64 million tonnes measured and indicated at 8.36 grams of gold and 26 grams of silver per tonne, with 548,000 tonnes inferred at 6.1 grams of gold and nine grams of silver per tonne. Willoughby is also eight kilometres south of the Poly and LNT properties that Millrock is optioning from Teuton Resources Corp. (TUO: $0.26).
