New York spot gold did not trade today as it was Memorial Day. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 1.88 points to 670.42 while the TSX Gold Index fell 0.25 point to 204.12. Most Canadian gold miners lost ground today, with Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) dropping 11 cents to $5.33 on 4.59 million shares. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) was among the few gainers. It added 28 cents to $58.00 on 320,000 shares.

Rolly Uloth's Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO), unchanged at $1.65 on 151,000 shares, has closed its acquisition of the Coldstream and Hamlin-Deaty properties, west of Thunder Bay in Ontario, from Duane Parnham's Canoe Mining Ventures Corp. (CLV: $0.045). Mr. Uloth, president and chief executive officer of Wesdome, says both properties are near his company's Moss Lake gold project and combined, Wesdome will have a "dominant strategic asset" in the Shebandowan gold belt. He says Wesdome will now have four gold deposits open for expansion on the expanded play: Moss Lake, Coldstream, Coldstream East and Hamlin.
