New York spot gold gained $0.50 to $1,101.70 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 1.31 points to 475.05 while the TSX Gold Index dropped 1.21 points to 126.87. There was little movement among Canadian gold miners today, although Iamgold Corp. (IMG) dropped 10 cents to $1.74 on 2.22 million shares and Alacer Gold Corp. (ASR) gained 14 cents to $2.23 on 1.20 million shares.

Dr. Thomas Morris's Northern Superior Resources Inc. (SUP), unchanged at 1.5 cents on 434,000 shares, has received assays of up to 18.85 grams of gold per tone over one metre from drilling at its Croteau Est project in west-central Quebec. All but two of the 11 latest holes yielded gold values. Most were unspectacular, although a second hole did manage 17.5 grams per tonne over one metre. Dr. Morris, president and chief executive officer, declares Croteau Est a "key asset" with an inferred resource that "clearly has the potential to be expanded with minimal effort."
