The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a positive 86-78-120. The TSX Venture Exchange rose four points to 782 while rough diamond prices gained 0.2 per cent this week. Bruce Counts's Lithoquest Diamonds Inc. (LDI) continues to gyrate actively in the wake of its recovery of three microdiamonds from its North Kimberley project in Western Australia. Today it gained 11 cents to 63 cents on 1.62 million shares.

Ken MacNeill and George Read's Star Diamond Corp. (DIAM) briefly jumped to 21.5 cents before closing up one cent to 19.5 cents on 279,000 shares. Star revealed details this morning of a planned bulk sampling program on its Star kimberlite in central Saskatchewan. Star Diamond and its partner, Rio Tinto PLC, will extract kimberlite from 10 sites on the mammoth mushroom-shaped kimberlite. The sites have already been selected and the two companies completed a series of pilot holes last fall, producing an average of 120 metres of kimberlite from each hole.
