The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a mediocre 85-106-99. The TSX Venture Exchange fell seven points to 888 while polished diamond prices were flat. Daryl Jones's Voltaic Minerals Corp. (VLT) gained two cents to 6.5 cents on 3.99 million shares. The company, which is looking to develop a lithium extraction process, has been quiet since mid-December.

Former shareholders of Dominion Diamond Corp. no longer have a financial interest in the Diavik mine, but they are undoubtedly still curious to see how the rich mine is performing. Dominion's private owner, Dennis Washington's Washington Group, says little about the operation, but its majority co-venturer at Diavik, Rio Tinto PLC, still reveals its quarterly data. The mine produced 1.77 million carats from 525,000 tonnes of kimberlite in the fourth quarter, averaging 3.37 carats per tonne. For the full year, Diavik yielded 7.49 million carats from 2.19 million tonnes of kimberlite, or 3.42 carats per tonne. That was better than the 6.66 million carats the mine produced from 2.21 million tonnes in 2016, thanks to a higher grade. (Diavik averaged 3.01 carats per tonne in 2016.)
