The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a so-so 60-70-132. The TSX Venture Exchange rose fractionally to 784 while polished diamond prices were flat. Dermot Desmond and David Whittle's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) dropped 12 cents to $3.56 on 111,000 shares. The company will release its third quarter results in two weeks and investors are jittery, given the disappointing diamond prices achieved at its Gahcho Kue mine so far.
Patrick Power's Arctic Star Exploration Corp. (ADD), up 1.5 cents to 13.5 cents on 81,000 shares, says it is "in the process of closing" a first tranche of the private placement it began late last week. Mr. Power, president and chief executive officer, says that the tranche is for $965,000. The company hopes to sell 15 million shares at 10 cents, for a total of $1.5-million. (Mr. Power is making better progress than he did in summer, when Arctic Star offered 6.25 million shares at 20 cents, for $1.25-million. That plan apparently went poof.)
