The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a weak 50-77-137. The TSX Venture Exchange rose fractionally to 774 while polished diamond prices added 0.2 per cent. Ken MacNeill and George Read's Shore Gold Inc. (SGF) dropped two cents to 20.5 cents on 1.40 million shares. As expected, Shore's directors were re-elected Wednesday at the company's annual meeting despite the continuing displeasure of retail shareholders.
Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC), down 14 cents to $17.14 on 247,000 shares, has a preliminary economic assessment for its Fox Deep project at Ekati, just north of Lac de Gras in the Northwest Territories. The proposed project would extract several million more carats from underground mining deep within the Fox kimberlite, which had been mined by open pit for several years. Dominion has spent much of the past year revising its resource estimate for the deepest reaches of the big pipe and determining if an underground mine would be economic. The preliminary study says yes, of course, as rare is the dream sheet that derives an unfavourable answer.
