The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a stellar 87-42-129. The TSX Venture Exchange gained three points to 819 while polished diamond prices jumped 0.3 per cent. Eric Friedland and Tom Peregoodoff's Peregrine Diamonds Ltd. (PGD), down one-half cent to 20 cents on 294,000 shares, continues its silence about a 2017 program at Chidliak, on Baffin Island. The company had been touting a $15-million plan several months ago, but it will need to raise cash or find a partner soon to pull it off.
Simon Tam and Denis Hayes's Gem International Resources Inc. (GI), up one cent to nine cents on 613,000 shares, is boosting its planned private placement to 18 million shares at five cents to raise $900,000. In early January, Mr. Tam, president, and Mr. Hayes, chief executive officer, said they were seeking $400,000 at five cents and two weeks later they bumped the sale to $600,000. The terms of the placement remained unchanged in each iteration -- one warrant, exercisable at 15 cents, accompanies each share.
