The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a positive 68-58-140. The TSX Venture Exchange lost four points to 715 while polished diamond prices were flat. Michael Schuss's Canadian International Minerals Inc. (CIN) gained one-half cent to 4.5 cents on 1.45 million shares. The company says it is focused on "early-stage project generation," but it has not managed much early-stage project exploration on its lithium or diamond prospects.
Robert Gannicott and Brendan Bell's Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC), down 42 cents to $13.76 on 244,000 shares, reported an operating loss of $26.9-million (U.S.) during its first quarter as a result of its $32.6-million (U.S) loss at Ekati during the period. (The Diavik mine recorded an operating profit of $12.1-million (U.S.) for the quarter.) Dominion shrugged off its loss as did investors initially -- the company's stock was up over $1 at one point Thursday on the news -- saying its first quarter is always its toughest stretch of the year. (Perhaps, but Ekati managed an operating profit of $12.0-million (U.S.) in its first quarter last year.)
