The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a weak 45-58-148 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell nine points to 664. The index crept up to 709 early this month but has shed over 40 points in the past two weeks. Polished diamond prices rallied again today, gaining 0.3 per cent. Patrick Evans's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPV) dropped nine cents to $4.24 on 101,000 shares. The company's stock, $6.08 last summer, has been sliding while Mr. Evans works to arrange financing for the company's 49-per-cent share of Gahcho Kue, an $860-million diamond mine 250 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife. The company is currently working on a $95-million rights offering at $4, which is exerting an additional drag on Mountain's stock. The bubble has burst for Mark Smith and Peter Dickie's Niocorp Developments Ltd. (NB). Niocorp lost 22 cents to $1.54 on three million shares today after soaring $1.01 in barely a week. There was no news to account for today's slump, but there also had been little support for the previous rally.
