RENEWED INTEREST IN GLASSES FREE 3D PRESENTS OPPORTUNITY FOR ZECOTEK'S PATENTED 3D DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY
Zecotek Photonics Inc.'s wholly
owned subsidiary Zecotek Display Systems Pte. Ltd. is demonstrating
patented 3-D display technology to major electronics companies in its
lab in Vancouver. The company is in discussions with certain major
electronics companies to co-develop an OLED/LED (organic light emitting
diode) based, flat-screen, glasses-free, true 3-D HD television. This
progress in the Zecotek Display Systems division, follows the recently
signed collaborative joint venture agreement between Hamamatsu
Photonics of Japan and Zecotek Imaging Systems to market and sell
patented imaging technologies.
"With the sharp decline in the 3-D consumer television market over the
past year there is renewed interest in our patented 3-D display
technology," said Dr. A.F. Zerrouk, chairman, president and chief executive officer of
Zecotek Photonics. "Price, combined with concerns about visual
health, as well as the overall lack of quality in the current 3-D
television, have all contributed to a poor consumer market outlook.
Zecotek's 3-D display offers a realistic, HD, glasses-free multiviewer
3-D experience. We have overcome the main technical barriers required
to meet the consumer preference for flat-screen form factors and HD
picture quality with available OLED/LED flat-screen display
technologies. Our strategy is to partner with industry-leading OEMs to
commercialize our patented technologies. Renewed discussions are now in
progress and we feel confident about reaching a mutually rewarding
business arrangement."
Current OLED/LED-based flat-screen display technologies are now meeting
higher switching speeds necessary to support Zecotek's 3-D display
technology. The company is actively pursuing major consumer electronics
companies to develop a true, glasses-free, HD 3-D experience using
state-of-the-art fast OLED/LED panels. The application of Zecotek's 3-D
display system with fast OLED panels will enable a true 3-D, HD flat-screen display system which could revive the electronics 3-D consumer
market.
"In November, 2011, our white paper on 3-D display technology predicted the
challenging consumer market place, pointing to the weakness in the 3-D
systems using special glasses. At the same time, the white paper
indicated that once flat-screen technologies, OLED in particular,
evolved to higher switching speeds, Zecotek's unique display technology
would be successfully applied to flat-screen formats. This is now
happening today," continued Dr. Zerrouk.
In parallel, rapid improvements in DLP (digital light processing) speeds
and intensity have enhanced the performance of Zecotek's current 3-D
projection technology, providing an opportunity in specialized markets
where a flat screen is not a critical requirement. As a result, the
company is finalizing the design of two new high-speed DLP designs: a
large display suitable for advertising and large venues; and a desktop
monitor that will have applications in design engineering, medical,
teaching and gaming.
Patents have now been granted to Zecotek for its 3-D display system in
the United States, China, Europe, Eurasia, Russia and Australia.
Patents have been filed and are pending in Japan, Korea and India.
