Inv Reporter says hold Canexus

2016-02-26 20:50 ET - In the News

The Investment Reporter, in its Feb. 19, 2016, issue, says hold Canexus Corp., recently $1.17. The Reporter said buy on Oct. 8, 2010, at $6.38, and again at Dec. 16, 2011, at $6.34. Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the two buys, the $2,000 position would now be worth $366. Calgary-based Canexus produces sodium chlorate and chlor-alkali for the pulp and paper and water treatment industries. Superior Plus Corp. has agreed to acquire Canexus; it will issue 0.153 of its share for each Canexus share, valuing Canexus at $1.55 a share. With Canexus trading well below this price, you should tender the shares. The parties hope to close the transaction in the first half of 2016. Superior Plus is thought to have earned 34 cents a share in 2015, down from 41 cents a share a year earlier. This is better than Canexus, which was thought to have earned 24 cents a share in 2015, a turnaround from a loss of 17 cents a share the year before. Canexus has a low book value of only six cents a share, and its debt-to-cash-flow looks too high at 16.1. The stock is a hold for now; tender Canexus for its full value when the time comes.
