The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, July 12, edition that Aurcana ($1.57) is finally making progress in the start of its Shafter silver mine in Texas, which began operations more than a year ago, says RBC Dominion Securities analyst Dan Rollins. The Globe's Darcy Keith writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Rollins says underground and milling rates ran above 600 tons per day in June and new equipment being installed should eventually get mill throughput up to the designed daily rate of 1,500 tonnes. But Mr. Rollins thinks the slow start, combined with weak silver and base metal prices, will weigh on the company's share price. "As such, we believe a sector perform rating is warranted," says Mr. Rollins. The analyst cut his price target to $2 from $2.25. The average target, according to Bloomberg, is $2.20. Stonecap Securities analyst Christos Doulis maintained Aurcana at "outperform" in the Eye column on Aug. 30, 2012. The shares were then worth $1. In the item Mr. Doulis said, "With a theoretical mine-life now in excess of 30 years, Aurcana can begin evaluating options to potentially increase (mill) throughput beyond 2,500 tonnes per day at La Negra."
