Vancouver resident Bozidar "Bob" Vukovich, who faces civil charges from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for broker bribery, denies any wrongdoing. In an answer filed on May 6, 2011, Mr. Vukovich says that he did not participate in a scheme to have brokers buy shares of an OTC Bulletin Board company, Pantera Petroleum Inc. He asks that the charges be dismissed, and for a trial by jury.
According to the SEC, Mr. Vukovich paid $36,875 in kickbacks in 2008 to an individual who said he could have brokers buy $2-million worth of Pantera shares. (All figures are in U.S. dollars.) The buying would be done through discretionary accounts owned by wealthy customers.
While Mr. Vukovich's answer to the charges provides almost no details, it does state that an individual named Charlie Moore bought Pantera shares from time to time. Charlie Moore was the name used by an undercover FBI agent in an unrelated broker bribery case also from 2008, that against Vancouver promoter John Zanic. Prosecutors in New York claimed that Mr. Zanic bribed the agent to have brokers buy shares of pink sheets listing Guyana Gold Corp. Mr. Zanic has pleaded guilty to criminal charges, and awaits sentencing.
