New York spot gold gained $5.50 to $1,280.30 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 1.80 points to 794.79 while the TSX Gold Index added 0.47 point to 195.50. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) led Canadian golds higher today, adding 50 cents to $7.85 on 5.76 million shares. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) slipped a bit more today, adding to the $3.81 it lost earlier this week, closing off 19 cents to $13.96 on 1.39 million shares. The company is facing threats and a blockade in a labour dispute at its ELG mine in Guerrero, Mexico.
Mick Wilkes's Oceanagold Corp. (OGC), up five cents to $3.54 on 3.70 million shares, has received assays of up to 15.7 grams of gold across 61.1 metres from a metallurgical hole drilled at the Horseshoe zone on its Haile gold mine in South Carolina. A second hole at Horseshoe assayed 6.4 grams per tonne across 26.2 metres. Oceanagold also got encouraging assays from extension drilling at Martha, a deposit on its Waihi project in northeastern New Zealand, which produced grades of up to 20.9 grams of gold per tonne across 3.3 metres and 7.9 grams per tonne across 18.5 metres.
