New York spot gold fell $7.90 to $1,278.80 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 5.11 points to 781.23 while the TSX Gold Index dipped 1.02 points to 196.23. Iamgold Corp. led Canadian gold miners lower today, dropping 66 cents to $7.63 on 5.40 million shares. Goldcorp Inc. (G) was stronger; it gained 33 cents to $16.20 on 4.55 million shares.
Roland Phelps and Ross Beaty's Galantas Gold Corp. (GAL) closed unchanged at eight cents on 4.67 million shares on word that the Belfast High Court has denied a third party request that the court quash a government consent order to allow Galantas to mine gold veins at Omagh in Northern Ireland using underground methods. The veins had recently been worked in its open-pit mine. The consent was granted in mid-2015 and the unnamed third party filed his challenge in early 2016. The matter had been expected to be resolved a year ago, but as with most things lawyerly, hearing of the case was delayed and delayed again.
