New York spot gold dipped $2.60 to $1,335.70 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 3.36 points to 833.29 while the TSX Gold Index lost 1.59 points to 275.45. Most Canadian gold miners followed bullion lower today, although Alamos Gold Inc. (ASR) had a good day, gaining 16 cents to $11.68 on 2.02 million shares. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) lost 46 cents to $33.91 on 1.21 million shares.

Mike Basha's Aurion Resources Ltd. (AU), up 3.5 cents to 43.5 cents on 54,000 shares, has received assays of up to 14.4 grams of gold per tonne from rock chip samples collected at its Ruoppa target in northern Finland. Aurion describes Ruoppa as an open-ended zone of anomalous gold samples about 2,300 metres long and 1,300 metres wide. Mr. Basha, president and chief executive officer, says the geology is "very similar" to that at Kuotko, where Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM: $75.80) has delineated 1.8 million tonnes averaging 2.9 grams of gold. Agnico has been drilling Kuotko in the hope of mining it as a satellite deposit to its Kittila mine. Mr. Basha also cheerfully points out that Ruoppa is "contiguous to" Kuotko.
