New York spot gold lost $8.10 to $1,290.00 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 0.04 point to 715.40 while the TSX Gold Index slipped 1.04 points to 231.13. Most Canadian gold miners moved little today. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) dropped 51 cents to $25.30 on 6.93 million shares, while Kinross Gold Corp. (K) lost 14 cents to $6.28 on 13.54 million shares.

Nav Dhaliwal's Bonterra Resources Inc. (BTR), up one cent to 36 cents on 143,000 shares, has begun drilling at its Gladiator gold project in the Urban-Barry region, north of Val d'Or in Quebec. The 10,000-metre program will test the eastern extension of the deposit along strike and at depth along the Main and Footwall zones. This work follows a 10,000-metre program along the western extension of Gladiator. The $5-million program is being paid for from the proceeds of the company's recent sale of 7.5 million flow-through shares at 40 cents and 5.71 million regular shares at 35 cents.
