New York spot gold gained $1.20 to $1,274.00 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 6.73 points to 686.41 while the TSX Gold Index gained 4.45 points to 228.88. Most Canadian gold miners gained value today, led by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM), which added $1.74 to $61.39 on 2.30 million shares. A share cost just $27.63 last August. Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. (KGI) lost 11 cents to $11.60 on 2.16 million shares.

Mike Muzylowski and Max Porterfield's Callinex Mines Inc. (CNX), up 3.5 cents to 48.5 cents on 255,000 shares, is acquiring the Point Leamington property from Newmarket Gold Inc. (NMI: $3.97). Callinex must pay $115,000 in cash upon closing and another $400,000 in cash or stock within two years for its 100-per-cent interest. Mr. Porterfield, president and chief executive officer of Callinex, was pleased with the deal. He says it provide his company with a sizeable, near-surface deposit that will increase its exposure to rising metal prices and complement its exploration activities near Flin Flon. (It is a far-flung complement, as Point Leamington is in north-central Newfoundland.)
