The United States government has successfully extradited Richard Walchuk, a former Canadian broker who had been living in Greece, to face bribery charges. Prosecutors in Pennsylvania claim that he and Calgary resident Caroline Winsor agreed to pay a kickback to have corrupt brokers buy shares of two pink sheets listings, Viosolar Inc. and FACT Corp. They had sought the purchase of millions of dollars worth of shares, according to the government.

Mr. Walchuk's extradition comes just months after a Greek financial crime squad arrested him on the U.S. charges. Police had located him in Palaio Faliro, a seaside suburb of Athens. On Friday, Aug. 8, they transferred him to the custody of U.S. agents, who brought him to Philadelphia. There he will remain in jail until a judge decides if he can be released pending trial. (He is scheduled for a detention hearing on Friday, Aug. 15, but lawyers for both sides have asked the judge to postpone it until after he is evaluated for an unspecified medical condition. It is not clear from court filings what the condition is, but it does require him to see a gastroenterologist, a specialist in the digestive system.)
