James Dines, writing in a Feb. 28, 2014, issue of The Dines Letter, says buy AVT Inc. at $3.78 (U.S.). This is the first time he has recommended the stock, which he includes in his new supervised list of Pot Luck picks. He does not discuss AVT in this issue, just includes the buy on the newsletter's back page. Elsewhere, Mr. Dines says that bootleggers originally peddled alcoholic beverages unlawfully to Native Americans. They carried bottles of fire water inside their boot, concealing them from United States government officials. Eventually, when Prohibition laws were passed in America, violaters of those laws were also called bootleggers. Mr. Dines says there are eerie similarities between the end of Prohibition on alcohol in the 1930s and the legalization of marijuana, which is now starting in Colorado and Washington. If pot is legal, he says, a new superbull market might be in the making. If so, he says he must report his perceptions impartially to his loyal, long-term readers. Mr. Dines says it seems to him that at least a short-term boom should be ahead for pot, not only for its novelty as an investment vehicle in stock markets, but also from pent-up demand.
