HOUSTON, May 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- BBVA Compass and the Houston Dynamo today announced that proceeds of the 2016 BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup held on May 24 at BBVA Compass Stadium will benefit the Pursuit for those with disABILITIES bicycle ride, a 3,500-mile cross-country trek to raise money and awareness for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup is an annual exhibition match in which the Dynamo take on a team from outside Major League Soccer, with proceeds benefiting a local nonprofit organization. BBVA Compass, in partnership with Dynamo Charities, will donate a minimum of $10,000, along with a portion of all proceeds above that amount from this year's Charities Cup. The match between the Dynamo and Real Sociedad of Spain's La Liga BBVA will benefit Pursuit's goal of raising $11 million for The Center, which has called Houston home for more than six decades.

"The BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup is a special evening for us, as we welcome an incredibly talented international team to our city for a matchup against the Dynamo," said BBVA Compass Chairman and CEO Manolo Sánchez. "We're using the spotlight to make an impact far beyond the pitch, shining it on a cause we can all rally around. We'd love for all Houstonians to come out and help build a brighter future for people with disabilities."

Real Sociedad is the eighth international opponent overall to face the Dynamo in the Charities Cup. The Dynamo will be led onto the field by team captain and BBVA Compass brand ambassador Giles Barnes.

"I'm looking forward to playing Real Sociedad in the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup on May 24," Barnes said. "It's always fun to test yourself against some of the best players in the world. BBVA Compass has found a great cause in the Pursuit for those with disABILITIES bicycle ride."

BBVA Compass debuted a video on April 27 featuring Houston energy executive David Baldwin, leader of the Pursuit cross-country bike ride and charity campaign across the U.S. As presenting sponsor, BBVA Compass said its partnership with Pursuit is the perfect embodiment of its Bright Futures campaign and its 10 bright principles, which articulate its desire to give everyone it reaches a roadmap to a brighter future. The ride across 11 states begins June 6 in Astoria, Ore., and will conclude Aug. 3 in Delaware. "Pursuit is extremely grateful to have the support of BBVA Compass and to be announced as the beneficiary of this year's Charities Cup," Baldwin said. "Crossing the country by bike is a long trek, but it's nothing compared to the challenges that individuals with disABILITIES face every day."
