Applied DNA Sciences Invited to Serve on AATCC Fiber Analysis Test Committee

2014-12-18 08:30 ET - News Release

STONY BROOK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 12/18/14

Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: APDN), (Twitter: @APDN), a provider of DNA-based anti-counterfeiting technology and product authentication solutions, announced today that the company will serve on the RA24 Fiber Analysis Test Methods Committee, part of the American Association of Textile Chemistry and Colorists, (AATCC). AATCC provides test method development, quality control materials, and professional networking for thousands of members in 60 countries throughout the world.

Members on this committee represent a consortium of leading technical and professional experts representing the international textile and apparel community. Dr. Michael Hogan, APDN Vice President of Life Sciences, was appointed a voting member of the R24 Committee.

AATCC members have developed advanced materials inspection and analysis testing methods, and standards. To these, APDN will aim to add the ability to trace textile and apparel items throughout the supply chain, through its authentication methods based on its unique DNA technology. The company believes it will add an entirely new dimension to AATCC protocols, also enabling point of origin and sustainability tracking.

Adam Varley, Chairman of RA24, said, "Dr. Hogan will work within the AATCC R24 committee to help design test materials to help labs validate APDN technology."

It was an APDN test called fiberTyping which allowed APDN recently to help a major manufacturer identify and interdict $1 million worth of cotton as counterfeit or blended.

APDN will also work within AATCC R24 to help labs authenticate cotton identity with a second technology using taggants, an external DNA mark which is added in early stages of the cotton production process. The technique is branded SigNature® T.

Dr. Hogan continued, "RA24 is an excellent forum for us to introduce our technologies, both fiberTyping and SigNature T, as standardized methods for textile identity assurance. I can see hang tags and labels documenting authenticated fabric in the future, giving customers absolute certainty that their product is what it says it is. We are looking forward to our collaboration with some of the key stakeholders in the global textile supply chain."
