2011-07-07 08:16 ET - News Release

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 07/07/11

According to the China Internet Network Information Center, China has the world's biggest population of internet users with more than 400 million, while a recent study from the consultancy McKinsey & Co predicted the Chinese internet population will grow to 750 million in 2015. With strict government policies minimizing competitive threats, several Chinese internet companies are posting significant revenue surges in this growth sector. The Bedford Report examines the outlook for companies in China's Internet Sector and provides investment research on E-Commerce China Dangdang, Inc. (NYSE: DANG) and Renren, Inc. (NYSE: RENN). Morgan Stanley analyst Richard Ji argues there is ample upside to social networking services (SNS) is China as social networks have only reached about half the Chinese online population, versus more than 70% in the US.

With popular social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter blocked in the People's Republic of China, several Chinese tech firms have turned to social media. Considered to be "the Amazon of China" Dangdang says that it closely cooperates with social networking media such as micro-blogs and social networking sites. By encouraging customers to share their shopping experiences or write product reviews in their personal pages, Dangdang says it is receiving "increased traffic from these social platforms."
