Company to celebrate by giving $25,000 to local nonprofits

Sam’s Club will open a brand new club at 8952 Westgate Parkway in Amarillo Thursday, Nov. 5 following an 8 a.m. grand opening ceremony. The membership warehouse club that brought more than 180 new jobs to the community will give residents and small business owners the opportunity to access incredible savings on exclusive merchandise, in-demand brands and top-quality items.

New club gives $25,000 to local nonprofits

The grand opening celebration will focus on the company’s commitment to being a club of the community. Associates selected several local nonprofit organizations to receive $25,000 in community giving grants.

The largest portion of this money will go towards fighting youth hunger. The organization Snack Pak 4 Kids will receive $15,000 helping to ensure area students from low income families have food to eat on the weekends. Club associates have also volunteered to help the organization pack the snack packs.

Other organizations receiving Sam’s Club Giving grants include $5,000 to Advo Companies, Inc., a nonprofit organization that operates a vocational training center and residential homes for persons with intellectual disabilities; $2,500 to Special Olympics; $1,500 for Toys for Tots; and $1,000 to Kids, Inc., a nonprofit an organization providing youth sporting opportunities.

Last year, Sam’s Club and Walmart stores in Texas provided 119 million dollars in cash and in-kind donations to nonprofit organizations in the state. These donations represent community grants, food donations and associate volunteer efforts from stores, clubs and the Walmart Foundation.

Grand opening events to feature local officials and former Dallas Cowboy

Mayor Paul Harpole and the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce President, Gary Moldberg will be among those in attendance at Thursday’s grand opening ceremony. The Tascosa High School ROTC will present colors and the Amarillo High School Choir will perform the national anthem.

To continue the excitement through the weekend, the Club will host former Dallas Cowboys Player Darren Woodson on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Woodson is the all-time leading tackler for the Cowboys, a record he’s held since his NFL retirement in 2004.

The Club will also showcase a variety of food samples and product demonstrations including Vitamix, Chef Shamy Gourmet Butters and Berghoff Eurocast cookware to name a few.

The new Sam’s Club features a shopper-friendly interior layout and measures approximately 139,000 square feet. Members can rely on fresh produce, quality meats, and home meal solutions among the huge selection of merchandise. The club also boasts an array of service offerings for its members. In addition to the pharmacy, the club also features an Optical department and Hearing Aid Center. Members can find services tailored to their business needs such as credit card payment processing, mobile payroll and legal services. Membership also includes special savings on vacation planning through Sam’s Club Travel.
