(NASDAQ: CKEC), a leading DIGITAL cinema and 3D motion picture exhibitor, is celebrating the latest expansion of its’ acclaimed state-of-the-art “BIGD” theater format with an April 20-26 staging of the “2012 BIGD Film Festival,” being held simultaneously at more than a dozen Carmike Cinemas locations coast-to-coast that feature the raved about “BIGD” “Ultimate Entertainment Experience.”

With the latest “BIGD” auditorium opening in Apple Valley, Minnesota on April 19 with a gala charity event, Carmike will celebrate with a week of special top name movie showcases being featured on all “BIGD” screen locations. Pricing for the top name festival movies being featured daily will be $5 with a special $5 concession combo offer for festival-goers on the purchase of both a large drink and a large popcorn.

In unveiling the “BIGD” experience Carmike has strategically taken the enjoyment of ‘going to the movies’ to new levels. The experience includes a wall-to-wall screen measuring as large as 80 feet wide and over three stories tall, the latest in surround sound and Digital projection of both 2D and 3D features. Powered by a cutting-edge Christie Brilliant 3-D flash projector, projection on the colossal wall-to-wall, ceiling to floor screen results in a light output of 30,000 lumens that create a picture quality noticeably higher in resolution than HD.

A recognized industry leader in Digital projection and 3D technology since 2006, Carmike has further embellished their superior array of technology with custom QSC DIGITAL audio systems turned to a 7.1 speaker array with 16 channels and the ability to upgrade to 11.1.
