Commitment includes funding for nonprofit grants supporting shelter
and feeding efforts, as well as in-kind product donations to support
first responders
BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- (Business Wire)
Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have committed up to $250,000 in
support of ongoing relief efforts surrounding wildfires in California.
This includes funding for nonprofit grants supporting the America Red
Cross and Salvation Army for shelter and feeding efforts, as well as
in-kind product donations to support first responders.
“We are saddened by the devastation caused by the wildfires and the
impact to our associates and the communities we serve,” said Julie
Gehrki, vice president, programs for Walmart. “This has been an
unprecedented year for disasters around the United States, and we remain
committed to support relief efforts to help them through this difficult
time.”
Walmart has a long history of providing aid in times of disasters,
helping communities prepare and recover by donating emergency supplies,
such as food and water, home and personal products. Since 2005, Walmart
and the Walmart Foundation have donated more than $60 million in cash
and in-kind donations in response to disaster events. This year, Walmart
and the Walmart Foundation have donated more than $35 million to 2017
disaster relief efforts.
