Dell to host and jointly sell solution to help government and public
higher education agencies meet security and compliance requirements

HOUSTON -- (Business Wire)
BMC Software (NASDAQ:BMC),
the leader in IT Service Management (ITSM), today announced the
availability of its Remedy OnDemand solution for the government sector –
the industry’s first ITSM SaaS solution optimized for local, state,
federal and public higher-education markets. Developed to meet the needs
of government agencies, Remedy
OnDemand for Public Sector is expected to be the first ITSM SaaS
solution to receive the U.S. Federal Risk and Authorization Management
Program’s (FedRAMP) provisional authorization once FedRAMP becomes fully
operational later this year.
The BMC Remedy OnDemand solution provides SaaS access to the full power
and capabilities of the BMC Remedy IT Service Management Suite (ITSM),
the world’s leading IT service management solution. BMC Remedy OnDemand
for Public Sector is designed to meet the Federal Information Security
Management Act (FISMA), and the low and moderate level security controls
are being implemented as outlined in the National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-53, Revision 3
(Recommended Security Controls for Federal Information Systems and
Organizations), for Software-as-a-Service. This FISMA compliance will be
able to guarantee that the BMC solution meets or exceeds the minimum
security requirements for government organizations. Unlike competitive
offerings that attempt to address this market, the BMC offering will
support FISMA guidelines for the application and the service in addition
to the infrastructure.
Dell is hosting the solution as part of a comprehensive private cloud IT
solution for BMC. This gives BMC the critical capabilities to scale its
environment according to customer demand and perform self-administration
and management of virtual environments, supported by the Dell Cloud
solutions team. In addition to the hosting services, Dell is also
teaming with BMC to resell the Remedy OnDemand for Public Sector
solution to public school districts and state and local governments
across the country.
“Dell has a longstanding history of supporting the public sector with
solutions that help governments and education entities meet increasing
data and IT demands, often under the pressure of shrinking budgets,”
said Mark Horan, VP global education and state and local government,
Dell. “By hosting and jointly selling BMC’s Remedy OnDemand we’re able
to continue to help the public sector advance its technology
infrastructure and provide critical end-to-end IT solutions.”
“Understanding the importance of compliance at the service level is
critical to success in the government sector,” said Rohit Gupta, vice
president of research and development, BMC. “BMC Software and Dell
understand the stringent security and compliance requirements government
agencies must address to adequately manage their IT. Working with
government agencies, BMC Remedy OnDemand for Public Sector removes the
barriers to SaaS adoption in the government space.”
Strategic Impact
The federal CIO’s “25-Point Implementation Plan to Reform Federal
Information Technology Management” places heavy emphasis on IT
operational efficiency and effective management of large-scale IT
programs. In response, Gartner advises CIOs and IT leaders that a “focus
on the following three key areas will yield the fastest and highest
impact: centralization and consolidation initiatives, cloud first, and
IT strategic plans for light technology adoption.” According to Gartner,
“immediate action against these three high-impact areas is not only
required, but sets individual agencies on the path to success.”*
Government institutions cannot rely on unproven ITSM solutions from
fledgling providers to manage their technology services. They require a
complete suite of reliable tools with the strongest security and
compliance capabilities. The BMC Remedy OnDemand for Public Sector
solution directly addresses this challenge by providing advanced
security, disaster recovery and audit support options. Furthermore, the
solution is scalable, easily integrated and intelligent and features an
easy-to-use web user interface, support for diverse mobile devices and a
powerful configuration management database.
“Our industry has used complex IT-based programs for several years, so
finalization of FedRAMP guidance provided us with the opportunity to
examine our technologies to ensure efficiencies are gained and
compliance achieved,” said Wallace Wilhoite, CSIRC lead, digital
forensics services, Department of Health & Human Services. “Remedy
OnDemand for Public Sector has come at a crucial point in our
‘lifecycle,’ and we expect BMC to leverage its business experience to
ease administrative processes, lower IT costs, provide strong security
and ensure compliance.”
The BMC Remedy OnDemand for Public Sector solution leverages BMC’s
existing ITSM strengths to provide service management everywhere for
everyone. The solution’s robust management applications enable
government agencies to provide top-notch service while limiting costs at
a time when budgets are constantly under pressure.
BMC Remedy OnDemand for Public Sector is available on a subscription
basis and allows customers to access service desk, self-service, change,
asset, service level management, knowledge management, dashboard and
analytics tools anywhere at any time.
