Carmike Cinemas, Inc. (NASDAQ: CKEC), a leading entertainment, digital cinema and 3-D motion picture exhibitor, today announced the grand opening of the new Tiger 13 entertainment complex featuring its ‘BigD’ premium experience in Opelika, Alabama (1900 Capps Landing, Opelika, AL 36804) and Auburn community. The theatre officially opens at 7:00 p.m. (local time) on Thursday, May 1, 2014. To celebrate the Tiger 13’s debut, Carmike will feature the highly anticipated premiere of Marvel’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 3-D and BigD. All guests who visit the Tiger 13 during the opening weekend celebration will also enjoy a special concessions promotion that includes a medium drink and popcorn for just $5.00 (valid until close of business Sunday, May 4^th, 2014).

The new 13-screen theatre seats over 2,800 guests in luxurious comfort and all auditoriums in the leading-edge entertainment complex are equipped with stadium seating, comfortable high-back rocking luxury seats, retractable armrests and convenient cup holders. The BigD, Carmike’s premium large screen format experience auditorium, seats 580 patrons. All auditoriums in the Tiger 13 contain large, wall-to-wall screens, DLP digital projection and digital surround sound.

The facility’s upscale lobby contains multiple concession areas featuring self-serve Coca-Cola Freestyle drink centers, which pour more than 100 customized fountain drink varieties. One-stop ticketing is included in the lobby allowing cinemagoers to escape the elements while purchasing their tickets and favorite concessions at the same transaction point. The new complex also provides special services for visually and hearing impaired patrons using Sony Closed Captioning glasses (CC) as well as descriptive and amplified audio (VI & HI).

All BigDauditoriums have wall-to-wall screens with Opelika being no exception. The new BigD screen at the Tiger 13 measures 81 feet wide by three stories tall. To further enhance the premium experience, a custom QSC digital audio system is tuned to a 7.1 speaker array with 16 channels, upgradeable to 11.1 surround sound. This system is a true revolution in sound technology, with digital audio processing supported by quad-amplified, 4-way speakers, and 21-inch subwoofers. The BigD is powered by a cutting-edge Christie Brilliant 3-D flash projector, which also presents 2-D entertainment. The end result is a light output of 30,000 lumens, creating a picture quality with noticeably higher resolution than HD.
