Sam ’s Club ® Helps Fight Diabetes with Free Public Health Screenings

2016-09-08 09:00 ET - News Release

In-club screenings available on Saturday, September 10 include glucose tests to measure blood sugar levels

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- (Business Wire)

Glucose testing can help identify patients who may be at risk for diabetes before they experience any signs or symptoms.1 Unfortunately, research shows that 83 percent of Americans do not know their blood-glucose level.2 Sam’s Club is working to change this statistic by offering free health screenings on Saturday, September 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., including glucose tests, while supplies last.

These health screenings are free, confidential and available to both members and the public at all Sam’s Club locations with a pharmacy (617 locations). They are valued at up to $150 and will include the following tests:*

  • Glucose – a test that measures the current amount of sugar in your blood.3 No fasting required.
  • Total cholesterol
  • HDL (good cholesterol)
  • Blood pressure
  • Body fat percentage
  • Vision (not available at all locations)
  • Hearing (not available at all locations)

“As the prevalence of diabetes rises, it is more important than ever for Americans to know if they are at risk for this chronic disease. Glucose testing is a great first step in this process,” said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president, Sam’s Club Consumables & Health and Wellness. “We hope people take advantage of our free screenings this weekend as an easy way to learn more about their diabetes risk and if needed, take steps to manage it.”

In addition to free health screenings, Sam’s Club Pharmacies provide other savings and preventive care to each community they serve, such as year-round immunizations for children and adults.** Eligible Sam’s Club Plus members can also save even more on prescriptions, including exclusive discounts on select generic prescriptions, some of which are available free of charge or at a discounted cost of $4 or $10 for a 30-day supply. This includes medications that are indicated for the treatment of diabetes. The benefit is exclusively available to Plus members in addition to the Sam’s Club Extra Value Drug List, through which Sam’s Club Business and Plus members also receive 10-30 percent savings on select brand name medications. Certain restrictions apply to these programs so members and potential members should check with their local Sam’s Club Pharmacy for details. Beyond these Pharmacy offerings, Sam’s Club members can also find a variety of healthy solutions in other areas of the club, including fresh organic foods, vitamins and supplements, oral care products, and wearable health devices.

Additional information about Sam’s Club health and wellness offerings can be found at SamsClub.com and in the Sam’s Club exclusive bi-monthly wellness magazine, Healthy Living Made Simple.
